File Editing Introduction
The file editing guide is a broad term used for the process of accessing game files in order to modify them.
Most visual things in Nuclear Throne can be changed in a relatively simple process. This page will serve as a link hub for each of these pages. (Make the links look more appealing later)
- Language file editing, which can edit any text seen. The most straight-forward process.
- Sound file editing, which includes editing any music or sounds heard. Music is a simple process, while sounds are highly technical.
- Sprites editing, which is a bit more technical but still straight-forward, just tedious.
- Save file editing, including methods to generate new save files or modify existing ones.
As every guide will brief over, backup your save. Any mistake could mess the game up, so having a backup to quickly turn to is important.
Modifying game files will still allow for the playing of dailies/weeklies and achievements. Editing language files(lang), music and sprites are all common practices within the community and frequently appears in record runs of high-level players, however these edits are usually done for aesthetic purposes rather than giving clear tactical advantages.
On Steam there are multiple betas and switching between versions can undo the work, so different versions will be mentioned on their different methods. A list of versions and how to opt into betas can be found here.
