Set Tech

While leveling up in Nuclear Throne would usually yield random sets, the logic the game uses to determine some sets is actually a complex issue.

This page will heavily reference the scouting sheet, which is a community sheet that people submit info to about what mutation sets they saw on a daily or weekly challenge. If wanting to contribute to the sheet it is done through the dailies and weeklies channel in the NT Discord.

In a normal vanilla run sets can be viewed as essentially random. There are few exceptions to this, which is how Crown of Destiny works and what sets are seen with Detachment, Redemption and Skeleton.

Daily Sheet Introduction

Above is an example of what the daily sheet looks like, for the bigger picture. Each individual part will be covered in detail in later sections.

Major sections to the sheet are as follows; Rows 1-2 are images that sheet editors can add. Rows 3-4 is the daily calendar and signifiers on weapon drops.
Then the main section of the sheet lists sets which appear on the current daily. The large empty grey space in the middle is usually used for suggesting routes, but is not utilized on days with off-meta sets. On the right is where scouts will add their routes, which is important to see what mutations can possibly reappear.
At the bottom there are unique sets seen on the Betas, and then editors that worked on the sheet that particular day.

What set you start on depends on your version.

In other words every time you level up you advance one more set on the sheet from your starting point. Beta can usually expect to see sets 0-7, while Non-Beta can usually expect to see sets 1-8. However, there are key differences that can skip sets entirely. Here is a major overview of mechanics:

All of these mechanics will have more detailed explanations below, but this is a sort of brief summary of every major mechanic that can effect a run as a sort of introduction.
